Op art, also known as optical art, is a style of visual art that makes use of optical illusions. There are three main types of optical illusions. Literal optical illusions create images that are different from the objects that make them, physiological ones are the effects on the eyes and brain of excessive stimulation of a specific type (brightness, colour, size, position, tilt, movement), and cognitive illusions are the result of unconscious inferences. With all these patterns and colours it reminds me of the children’s toys Kaleidoscopes. The kaleidoscope had optical illusion patterns and you used to twist the tube to make the pattern change.
Optical art, is a method of painting concerning the interaction between illusion and picture plane, between understanding and seeing. Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in only black and white. When the viewer looks at them, an impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping.
